Writing with Sand in Her Shoes

“Even the wind felt ancient.”
That’s what Sofia Safar remembers most about her time in southern Tunisia—the way the desert didn’t just whisper, it remembered.

Wrapped in desert wind and story, Sofia traveled to the salt-cracked edge of Chott el Djerid to retrace the roots of her novel The Wind in the Tamarisk. What began as a quiet return home became a deep listening—to the earth, the language, and the grief we inherit.

In her journal: dried tamarisk petals. Field sketches. Proverb fragments.
In her story: a botanist burying her father, and unearthing something older than myth.

📚 The Wind in the Tamarisk is coming soon from Wanderlight Press—a novel of exile, ecology, and the memory buried in soil.
